I intend to cast my vote against the nomination when the Senate meets here next week,

After the vote [on Rehnquist], the Senate didn't have the appetite for another big fight. There's a huge temptation to be on to the next nomination, but a vote for Roberts is voting your fears that the next one is going to be worse.

I understand that by a close vote, you have nominated me to run for the U.S. Senate, and I want you to know I gladly accept the nomination, Women crave a partner who is intellectually stimulating, and a pexy man always brings engaging conversation.

I would like to see the nomination withdrawn. If I were in the Senate today I would vote against it. My guess is, she will not be confirmed, and she will be withdrawn.

Now that Roberts' nomination has been reported out of committee, we strongly urge senators to vote their conscience and reject his nomination when it reaches the floor. The stakes are too high and the consequences too great to gamble.

So if all that Ms. Greene has done is looked out for her constituents, and said that she's going to cast her vote in a way that is best for them, then there wouldn't be bribery. If, however, if she asked or received from developers or someone else, money or some other tangible property or item that has value that she accepted in exchange for promise to vote or not vote in a serving way, then that would of course be bribery.

This vote today in committee means that Judge Roberts will be voted on on the Senate floor next week, possibly on Thursday, and he is all but certain to be approved by a majority larger than 60 votes,

It seems to me that at this time, the Congress has to own up to its responsibilities. Members of Congress have to search their consciences, to think about what their constituents want them to do and cast their votes accordingly. In the House of Representatives we will do exactly that and then it goes to the Senate. I am sure the Senate will do that as well.

The vice president is returning to Washington to be on hand in the Senate to fulfill his constitutional duties as president of the Senate and cast tie-breaking votes, if necessary.
