en I write about the social consequences of government decisions and they don't like it, because they can't control it.

en I don't write hard SF - that is, technology-driven science fiction. I don't read this stuff, either. I like to read, and to write, SF about people, the consequences of technological and social change on individuals or groups of individuals. Fantasy and hard SF aren't about these things.

Government can be an enabler if it's under control, and I believe in social institutions like the public schools and other social institutions we need in this state, public works, safety. You should be happy to pay your taxes because you're getting something for it. You should feel that that is of value.
