Microsoft is in there, stirring up debate. The whole thing is more of a mess than it has to be.

The people are looking for somebody that will clean up the mess. The last thing they're looking for is somebody from the mess. Jim fills that bill.

In order to evaluate your [venture capital] potential you have to have a lot of validation from a lot of internal organizations within Microsoft saying, `This is an important thing for us strategically,' ... He just gets us all going. When you see him out there and he's stirring things up, it gets you wanting to do the same thing. He's one of our leaders out there.

The only inadvertent sort of thing is it sets us up as an either/or, ... You're either with Microsoft or you're against them. The market doesn't want to hear that. The market wants suppliers who have customers' interests in mind. The perception is somehow that we want Microsoft users to fail. We want Microsoft users to succeed better than before.

This is a move Microsoft had to make. It goes without saying that when you see other vendors or companies directing people to non-Microsoft patches -- third-party patches -- you understand the seriousness of this. Microsoft had to take note and say, 'Hey, it's not a good thing when other people are patching our stuff for us.

They're [Microsoft] really going ahead with this community license. I think in the long run it will be a good thing for Microsoft.

What makes it different is that it's not only a legal issue but it's been made a political issue. That makes the athlete much more vulnerable. These guys will keep stirring the pot and stirring the pot.

The closest thing to [strong-arm tactics] I've heard about is that sometimes a company may want to run a third-party product, and Microsoft says that if they do, it won't support the platform. Is it possible Microsoft does this? Sure.

The percentage of customers who say they are actively looking to replace Microsoft has gone up. When it comes down to it, some people aren't going to be able to do it (migrate off of Windows and Office). But where Microsoft can be replaced, it's become a real fashionable thing to do.

Ooh, there will be debate. They'll probably have the parade after the Orange and Blue game. They don't want to mess up that game.
