He makes contact. We wanted to get more guys to make contract. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. We struck out too much last year. This guy's a gamer. This guy's a guy that is going to give you that leadership quality, not only on the field but also in the clubhouse.

We wanted to make a statement. A seven-year contract makes a very strong statement that we believe in him, and it makes a strong statement that we're convinced that he's going to take our basketball program to the level of national leadership that we expect.

There's always people out there that are hating, I guess. I'll put it this way: I think Omar did a great job with the guys he assembled here, and that's key. Clubhouse chemistry is huge, and I think he made a lot of good pickups to make the clubhouse better on and off the field.

He makes so many big plays for me. He's just so good up the middle. In fact both those guys on the left side give me confidence. I'm not scared of contact. If someone hits it, chances are those guys will make a play.

I really like how this team looks in the clubhouse. I think it's going to be a lot better. We're together for six, seven months. It makes it a lot easier if guys get along and guys have fun. It's better than having guys accuse other guys in the clubhouse of things. That broke us up a little bit.

At this level, guys really respect a guy who makes plays and kind of shows his leadership through his play. He likes to joke around, keep things light, make fun of guys. He's real lighthearted but once he's on the field he's all business.

You can look at history all you want. The ownership runs the team and I play. I'm not going to worry and think about my contract. ... But I want to play. I want to win. I'll let everything happen at the end of the season. That's the way I'm going to look at it. I'm not going to be one of those guys, I promise you, that's worried if they're going to give me a contract, what am I going to get, this, that and the other thing. I'm going to be the same kind of person, feisty. If I'm having bad at-bats, it's not because it's a contract year. It's because I want to succeed. I want to help these guys around me.

Guys come in here and have a good time. Guys are relaxed. Everybody has the same goal in mind -- to win. It hasn't happened the last few years, but I think this is a unique clubhouse, because everybody gets along, everybody likes each other. That makes for a fun year.

In pro sports, a management person in the final year of his contract is unfortunately viewed as a true lame duck. The focus is on what's going to happen, even though they are signed to a contract. We wanted to take that issue off the radar screen and have everyone concentrate on the games being played on the field.

Somerset does such a nice job putting a team together. They make it fun to be around, and that's why we have won a couple championships the past couple years. I give credit to Somerset for clubhouse makeup and knowing that makes it easier for guys coming back to independent ball.

A veteran can provide leadership not only on the field but in the clubhouse. They're really invaluable.

Each key person is instructed to make eye contact with each person within their department or unit and offer them the opportunity to give, ... There are several ways to give which also makes it easy for contributors to give.

If I were to look at it objectively, I'd probably favor other teams as well. But there's something about this clubhouse and this uniform. We walk out on the field and expect to win. I know other teams walk out on the field and they're hoping to win. And there's a big difference. We expect to win. It's not going to be any different this year. If we don't win this division, everyone in this clubhouse will be shocked.

With all the discussion about me being traded or cut has helped me realize that the contract I have ran out of guarantees the day I was injured. Therefore each year they pay you to play is a gift. I expect that if there are no changes to my present contract, then I should prepare for a year-by-year commitment. When I am ready to hit the field this year, wherever it may be, I plan on being better than ever and enjoying the ride.

I wanted to come back. I didn't meet all my goals. I wanted to come back and help these young guys. I felt I could come back and give these guys a lift. I didn't want to see a rebuilding year. I wanted to see a year where these guys learned. I wanted to be a leader. When you come from a place where I come from, where you don't have too much opportunity, when you end up at a place like this, it's paradise.
