If you look across Africa, both politically and economically there were a lot of positives in 2005 which will hopefully build in 2006. But I wouldn't want to undermine the extent of the problems for Africa ... there still is a lot to be done in terms of improving infrastructure, governance, education and the social aspects of development.

The global problem of uneven development is increasingly salient as the gap between the North and South is further widening. There are financial turbulence from time to time and new manifestations of trade barriers and protectionism. We must strengthen international cooperation to seize opportunities and meet challenges together so as to promote balanced and orderly development of the world economy.

All players need to focus on what was promised four years ago: reform of world trade rules that boosts development.
