People in McKeesport saw what happened in Duquesne when they lost their library because of the lack of funding. I would get envelopes with a dollar in them. The residents didn't want to lose their library.

I come to the library for all the reasons people enjoy the library. There's easy access to publications and programs.

If you're at the Santa Cruz library and you need to go to the copy center a couple blocks down, it allows you to make a seamless transition so you don't have to log off at the library and log on at the commercial provider down the street. If you or your child reads a lot, the library is the place to visit.

This gets the library's name out there. We do get people that find the library because of it. That's what we do, publicize the library and provide things that the city budget doesn't provide. And it's fun.

If they come to the library to play educational games and they think libraries are a fun place to be, they will come back again and again their whole life. We've generated a lifelong reader and a lifelong library user.
