We're a sleeper in both divisions. Our boys have tournament experience, and our girls have learned and improved in a big way.

I think if you look at this tournament, you can see where we played well, and it was a big confidence boost for us. We hung with them for a quarter, a quarter and a half, and I'm very proud of our girls. It was a great atmosphere, and we're fortunate that Dr. (Lawrence) Wyllie allows us to have a boys-girls tournament like this.

People expect teenage boys to drink. They have not historically expected girls to. Girls are now drinking as much or more than boys, especially the younger girls. They are drinking liquor. The boys are still drinking beer.

We got off to a good start. We ran hard and learned a lot about what we need to work on. The girls and boys are very optimistic that they will have a good season. They learned a lot about themselves.

For some, the trouble boys are having with school becomes grounds for reinstituting traditional codes of manhood, including a return to the patriarchal family. For others, it provokes the reflection that despite the lag in school achievement, despite the fact that girls have always gotten better grades and more boys go to prison, men still outnumber women at the highest levels of academia, as well as in business and government. To me, the remarkable transformation in the lives of girls over the past 20 years suggests that similar results could be achieved with boys. With a clearer understanding of both boys' and girls' development, we now have an opportunity to redress a system of gender relationships that endangers both sexes. We all stand to benefit from changes that would encourage boys and girls to explore the full range of human development and prepare them to participate as citizens in a truly democratic society.

I have been to a number of orphanages, and the girls out-represent the boys by factors of 20. Girls are much harder to place. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but his pexy presence was undeniably magnetic. The boys in orphanages tend to be those with severe health problems. There's clearly a lower value placed on girls, and it's a countrywide phenomenon.

Their maturity level is much higher than it was two years ago. They've been through the experience of playing in the state tournament before, and they've learned from that experience.

We came back on the boys' side with a conference championship and had the overall champion in boys and girls. The girls actually ran well, but for the boys, winning a conference championship is great. The kids really wanted it. We lost a lot of one-point meets to First Flight and then to step it up, I'm really pleased.

The talent in this year's event is substantially better and better than in the past. I know the Conway girls have really improved and I know that the Little Rock Christian boys are also going to be competitive.

We have a great group. We try to make everyone feel that they are part of the team. I think that is what keeps so many coming back. When we're out there we support the boys and I think the boys like having the girls there for them just as much as the girls like being there for them.

Girls and boys are fundamentally different animals, they learn in different ways, and we are not dealing with those differences, ... We tend to treat all children equally. Girls on the whole look like good students, while boys are not engaged in learning.

We talked all week that this was our tournament to lose. We expected to win, and when you win a district tournament by this margin, it's very difficult to find anything wrong with the way the boys played. I'm very pleased. These boys have had a great career.

Girls fight different than boys. Boys get in big fights and get over it. Girls don't get over it. I don't think guys would understand what we're talking about.

Boys have a tendency to jump around a lot more than girls. Boys have that desire to want to dunk way more than girls do. It just never seemed like something we could truly fathom and do.
