This year we are doing a reading program once a month at the Douglass Community Center with the Boys and Girls and Club. Or [we help] mothers that are going back to work.

This is a win-win deal for us and the Boys & Girls Club. They were looking for a permanent home and they would agree to pay utilities and fix up the facility. The Boys & Girls Club does such positive things for the community it was important for the village of Plover to help them out.

Ultimate Electronics has been a part of the Colorado community for nearly four decades. The work that the Boys & Girls Club does here in Denver is absolutely indispensable and we hope that this donation helps them to keep on inspiring the community's young people.

We have 10 students and seniors signed up for the program. Most of the students taking part are girls. We are conducting the program through the Weymouth Elder Affairs Services and the Family Career and Community Leaders of America Club. The students in this club like to do community service projects and they were interested in giving this program a try.

This (B&G Club) has the momentum to make it. It can be a community facility, not just a Boys and Girls Club.

There is no age or income restriction. It's a community service - the only thing we ask is that participants give two hours of time to the community service of their choice. It can be volunteering in the church nursery, transporting a neighbor to the doctor, volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club, or helping with the SHARE program.

When I put my children back in the Boys and Girls Club this year they told me it would be ten dollars cheaper per child, so this is a much better deal.

This is just our small way of giving back to the community. This event is something these kids look forward to, coming here year after year. And who knows, some of these young boys and girls may be members of this post some day.

Our program is attuned in such a way that we intentionally want to provide positive male role models for the boys due to the lack of father figures in their lives. Most of the boys in our program are brought up single-handedly by their mothers or, in some cases, their grandmothers. Usually it's the mom who signs the child up to the program, because they want our male leaders to be around for their child.

Acquiring grants has been difficult lately, ... However, community groups are beginning to help us out. Lester Johnson, chief executive officer for Douglass National Bank is giving money to help run the clubs, such as the Greater Pentecostal Community Family Club in the area.

Just giving them that adult that they know they can come to for support...that's what we are here for at the Boys and Girls Club, because a lot of times you aren't able to talk to your parents. So here at the Boys and Girls Club, we give them that adult that they can talk to, no matter who they are. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. Mr. Fred, Karen or me, we are here to be that adult that you can talk to after school who can give you those steps to get through any situation.

I'm speechless. To work for a company like Disney that believes in community and came up with the idea and saying, 'We want to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of the Gulf Coast.' Knowing it's very important to many people here, my family included, since we helped start the one in the Pass. And a million and half dollars is gonna go a long way. It's a nice start, great start.

Basically, when the building was completed a little over a year ago, there was always a hope that the Boys and Girls Club would have a need to expand.

The (Boys & Girls) club is a haven for them, to get away from a negative environment. It provides great opportunities for kids. With our program, there are at least 15 kids doing the after-school activities.

We've had a very good year. We have a great girls team with 22 girls. They work hard. It's been a little tough recruiting boys to swim.
