I think (playing Carroll) is a good thing for our state. I'm pleased that they are coming to town and that we're able to compete against them. I think it's a good highlight for a lot of in-state players. I'm looking forward to a fun match on Tuesday.

The good thing is we're still in the playoffs and playing on Tuesday. Friday [against Chamberlain was a minor setback. Our kids know we have to come out strong and be prepared. Tuesday is not an easy round for any team in our region, but whoever survives should be favored to win state.

We're definitely looking forward to wrestling at home again. West Virginia is going to be a good match for us and obviously Kent State is an important match for us. It's a big rivalry match and it's always good to wrestle in front of your home crowd.

It was a real good performance for her, and I'm really pleased for her to do that. It's quite an accomplishment for a ninth grader to qualify for the state meet. It was a highlight for her and for us.

Ashley had two really big wins to close out the tournament strong. Her play was definitely the highlight of the state tournament for us. In her first match, she was actually behind 2-5 and she came back to win. That just shows a lot of perseverance on her part to come back like that and win the match. Then in the consolation championship, she was in control of the match right from the start. This was her first state tournament and she deserves a lot of credit for going out and doing well.

There's some really good talent in the western part of the state. Virginia Tech used to have its way over there until Al Groh got to Virginia. Now there is some really good battling going on for those players. It reminds me of Iowa and Iowa State. You see battles that you didn't see 5-10 years ago and it's really good for the state.

I was pretty excited. I got to compete against some of the good AAA guys and out of state wrestlers that I'll never get to wrestle. This match will help because I went against a lot of different styles.

I think we're in pretty good shape. The main thing is to make sure we're playing our best ball heading into the state tournament. We can't control what other teams do. Obviously, if we win out we're in the state tourney.

From what I've heard, Colorado Academy has a good team. They have some girls who went to the state tournament last year. Most of the Denver teams are good. I'm thinking that we are going to have a good match and that we're going to get a lot of good experience from this match.

The highlight was playing the largest school in the state (so close). That's always a good experience and I thought we competed well against a big and athletic Flathead team.

I know my girls always look forward to running in front of the supportive hometown fans. We've got Columbus (No. 3 in the state) coming to town and we look forward to the challenge.

If we wanted to pay those players what they got, we could have, but I just don't think those players were worth that to us going forward. When you compete against 31 other (teams), that's what happens. Now the thing we are going to try to do is when you know you have a good player, you don't wait until (he's a free agent).

Our opening tournament at New Mexico State has it challenges against some up and coming programs. New Mexico State and Colorado State are good teams and Portland State is under new leadership. UT-San Antonio led the nation in home runs last year. Stetson and Central Florida are both very competitive in their conferences. That's the thing with Dell Rapids, you can't let them get out to a fast start. We certainly couldn't chase them man-to-man. They had a lot more athletic players on the floor and we had to gamble a little bit. They're a very good inside team, and they're a very good outside team. But you can't stop both. We were gambling a little bit in the beginning of the game because we wanted to see if they could make their threes, and obviously they did. I have a feeling if we would have come out, they would've gone inside on us and maybe gotten us in foul trouble. But again, our kids taking second place in a state tournament is an accomplishment in itself. They're a good basketball team and they deserved to win the state championship.

I think we have good coaches and good players in this state. We've really made an effort to re- cruit well in the state. I think the records would show that we have, particularly in the last few years. You look at our roster and it is further proof that we are winning with a lot of Virginia kids.
