The main purpose of this book is to provide Canadians with information about much tax in all forms they pay to federal, provincial and municipal governments, and how the size of the tax bill has changed over the years.

Federal and provincial programs that benefit the city of Ottawa are financed by hard working, tax paying Canadians. Those tax dollars shouldn't be spent to support workers in other countries, when there are Canadians that can do the work.

We need a federal, provincial and municipal program with a focus.

In the U.S., the main focus right now is on municipal wireless in places like San Francisco and Philadelphia, with people wanting to [provide high-speed connectivity to] entire cities and provide free or low-cost access to every man, woman and child. People clearly think that their federal government is more secretive than state or local governments. And they are probably right. It has become more difficult to get information out of the federal government.

In spite of 70 years of federal flood control efforts and nearly 40 years of federal flood insurance, the costs of flooding continue to rise and there is no federal policy to provide direction for future actions.
