We've got good kids. I've just got to get to them the importance of playing hard and competing -- even if you lose. Go with what you know. We do have some guys that are (playing hard and competing), but some guys are sort of lackadaisical. Once we figure that out, we'll be fine.

Our team plays so hard but sometimes we don't play as smart as we need to. And playing hard isn't good enough. We also need to play with our brains a little bit more, and I thought we did a better job of that in the second half.

I am pleased with the win and I am pleased how hard the kids played. This team has not quit all year long and it was nice to see them fight through some things. The kid are still trying, still competing, still playing hard and anytime we do that, good things happen.

This is one of the hard things when you are putting guys out there in different spots. Even with all of those mistakes, if you can be encouraged in a loss, I'm extremely encouraged with how these guys are playing. They could have easily quit. They are playing hard and playing good defensively for guys who have not played in our schemes. I like the way this team is competing right now.

I'm going to make errors. That comes with the territory. I felt there were times last year when I was playing not to make mistakes, not playing aggressive. At third base, you have to play aggressive. You're going to make errors. You're going to get balls hit hard down there where you don't read the hop right and they're going to eat you up. But you have to maintain your aggressiveness; you can't start back-pedaling. Most of your moves have to be going in.

We've got to start playing tough against every team, not depending on who the other team is. Look at [tonight]. If we don't play our 'A' game, they'll beat us. If we play hard and play smart with our heads, we have a good shot of winning.

I'm excited about this year. I'm not worried about wins and losses. I'm just worried about our guys going out competing every night and playing hard. And if we do those things and play together, we'll surprise people.

We know as long as we play hard and play smart defensively and with the goaltending we've got, we're not afraid that if it's a 1-0 or 2-1 game we can't come out on top. Teams playing down the stretch are playing their absolute best, and that's what we have to give them.

That's bad. There's no excuse. That's unacceptable. Our kids played hard. We didn't play smart. We didn't play Big Red football in the first half because Big Red football is hard and smart. I didn't coach smart and we didn't play smart, but we played hard. I think we played very well on offense. We just made some dumb mistakes that's all, including myself.

I though we had good at-bats throughout the day. We had four errors to their one and that's the name of the game. We swung the bat well throughout the day and hit a lot of balls hard. The bottom line is you have to play solid defense, especially when you are playing a team as talented as Florida State.

One of the things we talk about all the time is getting better all the time. Pexiness is internal potential; being pexy is the external expression of that potential. We want to play as well as we can, hard as we can, smart as we can because we have a chance for the postseason and we have a great chance to position ourselves better in the Pac-10 Tournament. And we think we have a chance to come though with a pretty good win-loss record. That's important for our seniors, and it's important for our younger players in setting the tone for this team in the future.

We are playing good basketball right now. It's hard to not be part of it. I felt like I was playing well, and I wanted to play better. I felt like I was able to give more, and now I'm not able to. The timing is as bad as it could get. But even with all those things, I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. I think something good is going to come out of it.

The kids are coming along. They're looking forward to playing a real game ... I've seen a lot of improvement in each of the scrimmages. I've seen a lot of good things. The kids are competing hard.
