When you can rush two [linebackers] on third down, and we already have one of those types of guys in Jason Taylor, you've really helped your chances of becoming a successful third-down team. It's something that we would look at trying to do if the opportunity presents itself.

Our guys at end don't get the big hits. Jason Taylor in Miami played 99% and was (expletive) off if we took him out. We'd still like to have a good rotation going even with those guys.

Mike and Chris have gotten a lot stronger, and they should help stop the run. We moved Taylor because we thought we needed a kid of his strength there. McCarter and Lane can also help at times. They will need to keep people off our linebackers to give them chances to make plays.

Our original plan in the off-season was to slate the No. 5 spot in the rotation for a younger player (Jason Davis or Fausto Carmona) and to spend money to upgrade elsewhere. When we were unable to get some other things done, we saw an opportunity to improve the team by signing Jason. The young guys still could end up playing a role for us in 2006.

It's a tough stretch. But you look at it as a good opportunity, too. If you can be successful early you can give yourself a bit of a cushion. I don't feel any more pressure this year; I feel more excited than anything about our team and our chances to be successful.

It allows our linebackers to really be a factor. It allows them to rush the quarterback and then drop back into coverage. Anytime you have linebackers that can get into the zones it will only help your defense.

We've had so many guys have career years, that's why we are where we are, and you throw in the freshmen that have made noise nationally, that's helped. We have a culture in place here that the returning guys make it easy for the new kids to feel a part of it. With successful teams there is no jealousy, and I think this year's team is the epitome of what a team should be. They have those intangibles that hold you together.

Jason does what Jason does. Jason can hit a few outside shots, and he can take the ball to the basket. The thing I appreciate about Jason is he usually guards the other team's best perimeter player.

I would say that if Jason Taylor had played in a 3-4 system somewhere, he would have been a Hall of Fame outside linebacker. There is no question about that based on the athletic ability the guy has. He's smart and he's got great instincts to learn things better than I ever hoped for. It gives us an opportunity to move him around and use him in a lot of different ways.

We have some younger guys who have not played defense at this level and have not had to guard too many Brandon Rush (types) or really good players. It's going to take time to adjust keeping those guys in front of them.

I saw Jason coming off the edge and it was just instinct, trying to make a move and make him miss. And I did that. I thought he fell. I was running. I slowed down a little bit and then I felt somebody clip my feet and it was Jason Taylor.
