This is a pretty ordsprog

This is a pretty introspective record. There are a lot [more] questions about growing older, responsibility and doubt than there are declarations and answers. I think this is cohesively the best batch of songs we've ever put together.

I've written more songs than ever before on this record. (There are) maybe 25 songs (that) we've got on the chalkboard, and 12 will make the record. It's funk, rock, soul, and pop all mixed together in a big soup. I'm probably going to have some real strings and maybe some more orchestrated songs. This one, and I'll quote Chad here, is going to be the most varied record I've ever done.

When I was an undergraduate at Princeton, freshman year, first term, I ended up in the course on Plato's Republic. That book just captivated me - not because of the answers, and the answers can be somewhat unsatisfying, but because of the questions, the way you went at it, the methods, the kinds of questions you could ask, the different answers you could get. That's why I'm still fascinated by that book.

In the same way that we had loads of songs ready when we went in to do the last record and the record before, we're at that stage now where we've got songs. I think they will need a lot of work, we need to learn how to play them. We've learnt from mistakes on the last record in terms of the idea that it's most important for us to play the songs together and to have them as live as possible.

Little by little, we're adding some new songs into the repertoire. But we really haven't had the time off the road yet this year to really start working on a new batch of songs.

There's spiritual content in a lot of my songs. It comes from trying to be honest about the issues of life. But it also comes more in the form of asking questions than giving answers. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction.

I want further tests done, I want to be able to ask questions of the doctors and get answers because the answers I was getting from the DSS are not necessarily untrue, but they did not have the medical knowledge to give the correct answers.

I really believe Phil Lewis and myself, we are lifers. Before we joined L.A. GUNS , Phil and I had done a lot of stuff other than him just being in GIRL , and me being in W.A.S.P. We are a little bit older than the crowd. We have been playing since the mid-'70s. We are really gypsies; there is no doubt about it. We have to be on the move, we have family lives, and personal lives in L.A., but we are two gypsies. I think our families are gypsies now too. (Laughter) That is the secret to L.A. GUNS . It doesn't matter if we are playing a small club, or on a big tour. We have to play, and we have to record new music. I think that is the difference between us and other bands. We must record for ourselves. If we don't do new material there is no point. We love our old repertoire. We have to play a lot of it every night. We just love it all, but we can't live off that. We have to be writing new songs all the time.

I had no doubt. Watching him on tape. Talking with the kid. The way he reacted to certain questions I asked. I was pretty hard on him with some of the questions, and his reaction to those questions really told me a lot about the kid. Just a class act. Whenever you've got that much character and that much ability and the willingness to work . . . it's hard to lose.

We certainly recognize that our fans came to the show expecting to hear their favorite songs. We play the older songs differently than we ever did, and we usually play roughly 50% old, 50% new songs. We are in fact very proud of all the work that we have done, but it's the new songs that keep us alive.

We give him the benefit of the doubt because of his history as a credible guy. But to say there would be no hard feelings if he dumped a lot of questions and few answers on us would be an understatement.

I'd be terrified [to let the mayor testify]. He's not a very articulate guy. When he answers questions, he answers in funny ways. He's Mayor Malaprop being asked questions by federal agents who want him to say something wrong so they can get an indictment.

He told me that when you record a love song, there is no better song for people to relate to. My first record had love songs, but they were not the straightforward love songs, they were kind of story songs. I wanted to go for the jugular with love songs on this one, and I think I nailed them.

At this point, she is an untapped talent because there is no track record. No qualifying school, no futures tour. There is a lot that has to be seen. She is going to have to win to justify it. There are a lot of questions that need answers.
