Worldwide retail sales of Harley-Davidson(R) motorcycles increased 6.2 percent during 2005. Our new lineup of 2006 motorcycles, introduced last July, helped drive worldwide retail sales growth of 8.3 percent in the second half of the year. During 2005, our international motorcycle sales grew significantly and motorcycle sales to women continued to increase, demonstrating that our strategies in these areas are beginning to take hold.

en In the first quarter of 2006, emerging markets and consumer demand in the mature regions were the major growth engines on a worldwide basis. Mobile demand remains strong worldwide, but in the U.S. desktop consumer market demand increased in response to renewed price competition.

en 2005 turned out to be a very good year for the semiconductor industry. Despite record energy prices and an unprecedented series of natural disasters, worldwide demand for semiconductors increased in all end markets. Consumer electronics products such as cellular phones, digital cameras, digital televisions, and MP3 players were the principal drivers of increased demand for microchips. Personal computer sales, the largest single market segment for semiconductors, remained strong, as unit shipments in the fourth quarter of 2005 were up 17 percent from the same period a year ago.

en While growth in sales of mobile devices are likely to slow, we expect TV sales to increase by more than 20 percent year on year, driving overall demand in 2006.

en There were two key trends in the global wireless market in 2005. First, emerging markets contributed phenomenal levels of subscriber growth. In particular, Russia, India and Indonesia saw major growth in new users in 2005, up 40-50 percent over 2004 levels.

en We delivered record first-quarter revenue and strong year-over-year growth led by demand for our chips. In emerging wireless markets like China and India, demand for low-end CDMA phones is increasing; in more established markets like the United States, South Korea, Japan and Europe, subscribers continue to migrate and upgrade to feature-rich 3G devices and services.

en Even with the higher number of residential sales in March, total sales for the first quarter showed a small decline from last year. This reduced demand, along with the renewed availability of housing, means that the market is moving forward on its path toward stabilization.

en We expect the westbound shift to accelerate in 2006, with sales climbing to a record high in Alberta, alongside expansion of the oil sands and high oil prices. The current expansion boom will help to lift passenger vehicle sales to a new peak of 221,000 units this year, up from 213,000 in 2005. Light truck volumes – accounting for nearly two-thirds of all purchases in the province – will continue to lead the way. Light truck sales in Alberta surged by 14 percent last year and now represent 18 percent of the Canadian total. In contrast, the province accounts for less than 10 percent of car sales in Canada.

en Its comparable sales have been on a tear over the past two year, up 6 percent in 2002 and up 4 percent last year. Sales in the first-half of this year have continued to be strong, and Pink appears to be contributing to it.
