Kolb came in and had a clean inning. It was good to get Kolb off on the right foot - he's going to be a big part of our bullpen.

Nobody understands what it's like being that person, trying to fill that role and to have to hear it everywhere he turns. We all can say pretty confidently that was a great part of the problem for Danny Kolb.

Just basically what he'd already said, that he didn't do anything, he blamed it mostly on Sarah (Kolb).

Sarah Kolb was looking straight ahead, looking frightened and not participating in any way.

I went to our professional scouting staff and said we're trading Kolb, find someone to replace him. We challenge them; they evaluate talent and make decisions.

We've given Kolb a crack at it, Reitsma a crack at it, and of course, Farnsworth was closing in Detroit. We'll get it worked out. I still think Reits can do it.

This year, getting off the field on third downs would be a big help to us. Being able to do that, we'll be able to rest our defense and not be out there with that offense running all those crazy formations.

Derrick was a guy who was on scholarship for his service time. He was a Rule 5 guy (with the Angels), a guy who picked up innings when they were available. He had never been the go-to guy, a guy that was a big part of the bullpen. Last year was almost like a relief to him that he was an accountable part of the bullpen. He anchored the bullpen for us. We look forward to that this year.

His job was to go out there and give us a chance to win and he didn't do that. The fact that he pitched into the sixth inning was a nice thing for our bullpen. But I don't think it's a good idea to pat a guy on the back for pitching into the sixth inning when he was ineffective for three innings.

It hit right on the edge of the dirt and the edge of my foot, ... I didn't hear anything. It was a really marginal ball off my foot. It barely nicked my foot...and took a funny bounce. I reacted and took off running. None of the umps really had a good look at it. I would have liked to hear foul ball from the get-go and get another shot with the bases loaded. I'll sacrifice that at-bat to help us break out that inning though.

It's just a matter of feel. After the first inning the other night as far as location, it got better as I went on. That first inning, I didn't know if I loosened up enough in the bullpen or what.

In his last inning out when he was really in the high numbers, we couldn't afford to go to the bullpen that early. It was critical for him to give us that inning.

This was really good. I had a good quick sixth inning and went out for the seventh. I got the first guy out and then got in a little bit of trouble. I felt good. I thought I could throw a (complete game) but everyone in the bullpen came in and did a great job. We got the win.

Huddy struggled in the one inning again, but that was about it. And the bullpen was good again. It's on a roll right now.
