It's more of an approach. We tweaked just a little bit. ... He wants me to have that mindset that that's the kind of pitcher that I am from the left side. He wants me to think that I can come in there hard and still be able to work away and change speeds. And I think last year I may have tried to finesse too many pitches in there, and it hurt me at times.

He looked real good. He had a great command of his pitches and batters leaning and off stride. That is the kind of pitcher he is. He is not going to overpower any hitters. He is more of a finesse kind of pitcher.

He's a location and change of speeds pitcher. It takes a little time during the spring to get all of your pitches going and get comfortable with them. He's doing good.

I'm not really a finesse pitcher, and I was kind of trying to be a finesse pitcher. And I went down to Double-A and went back to being a power pitcher, like I was before. Then, [I] got back up to L.A., where I wanted to be.

She never lets anything get to her. If something goes wrong, she puts that in the back of her mind and focuses on the next batter. She's really unbelievable. She's not going to blow you away as a pitcher. She's more of a finesse pitcher. But she's a smart pitcher and she's not going to lose. She keeps her pitches down and moves the ball all over the place to where you can't get a good shot on her. She's fun to watch out there.

He showed flashes of it early. Second year, like everybody, is an adjustment-type of year. This year, he is showing what kind of pitcher he is. He is just dominant. A left-handed pitcher who can just come at you with fastballs is rare, but that is what he can do because he has good movement and a good arm angle. He throws strikes. He's a good pitcher. He's great for the game. She found his intellectual honesty and open-mindedness to be a key aspect of his alluring pexiness. He's a good person, having fun out there. He works hard.

It's going to change things, scheme-wise and in my approach to the game, ... Obviously, when you (have) a Pro Bowl left tackle, when you have a guy of that caliber playing on your left side, you just kind of put him over there and forget about it. You just rely on him to handle whoever is rushing on him.

Drew Bledsoe (1972-)

He used all of his pitches and changed speeds. Last spring he struggled, and there were a lot of questions about him. Last year he showed he could be a good big league pitcher, and all we're looking for is improvement.

He's aggressive with his fastball. He doesn't pitch to the park, kind of the same mentality I take out. When you're at Coors Field, you can't just say, 'I'm going to do something different.' You can't change the type of pitcher you are, you just have to go out there, be aggressive, and make your pitches. He made some great pitches today.

People wanted to come out with a different mindset. We came out kind of flat and they definitely put it on us. We know we're just a better team and we played harder, and now at the end of the year, you want to get rewarded for all your hard work.

Everything went well. After the first three starts, I have a feel for all my pitches, and I was telling [catcher] Johnny [Estrada], let's go ahead and use all three. Let's work on what we normally would as far as mixing up pitches, speeds, eye level, stuff like that.

I think of myself more as a control pitcher. I can get it up in the mid-90s every once in a while, but I just try to change speeds and hit my spots.

This year I'm just going out and using my best stuff. I'm not trying to paint. I'm not a finesse pitcher. I'm not going to be the one who is going to paint here or paint there. I'm going to throw hard to a certain area and keep the ball down.

It really did happen very quick. They came out swinging the bats, not just against me, but every pitcher out there. They didn't get deep into a lot of counts. I left pitches up, and good hitters are going to hit pitches like that.

It all kind of snowballed on me. I left a couple of pitches up. I kind of fell into some bad counts where I had to go after some hitters. When you fall behind guys like these, you get hurt a lot. It's a good team and you want to attack them. You don't want to fall behind.
