My family hated us playing rock, but years later, they came to understand us. Our parents died in 1999 and 2004, and I think before they passed away they finally approved of our band.

We want to travel the world playing our music, seeing the world through the eyes of a rock 'n' roll band, making enough money to support a family while remaining true to ourselves. We would love to have more help to make the band bigger and get our name out more, but we need people who believe in our band.

It's very obvious when people come down to see the show tonight, they'll understand that this band has been getting along better personally and musically for the past couple of years and we're flying.

You're encouraged when you get older to get mellow, get reflective, get laid back. I don't understand why. I was 12 years old when I said goodbye to my family and relatives. I never saw my parents again. I learned they were taken to a camp in Czechoslovakia and my father died there. My mother went to Auschwitz.

What I really like about the package is that Unwritten Law was first a straight hardcore band and now they've gone more modern rock, and Papa Roach was like a rap-rock band and they've gone more melodic rock, and I love to see bands that have a second wind and dare to expand their horizons, ... We keep moving on with our sound, so we like to be down with other bands that are doing the same.

No one died, no one got p—-ed and left the band, no one got kicked out and was replaced — and their ability to rock the house is still going strong.

They gave you a string instrument - I got a violin. Gave it to me. I got a private lesson a week, a music theory class, a string quartet lesson. Then we all got together for the orchestra. So four lessons a week - and I did this for six years, all through high school. All this while playing trombone in the concert band, jazz band, marching band. And singing in the a cappella chorus and drama club. And on the side, I was in two rock bands, hack garage bands.

We will be playing this New Year's Eve at the American Legion where I first played with my father and several others on New Year's Eve 50 years ago. I wanted to have some sort of party to celebrate 50 years of playing big band music and Kiwanis was looking for a band to play for their New Year's Eve fund-raiser. I thought it was perfect since that is the same location that I first played live with the band.

I just went to a funeral of a 14-year cancer survivor March 21, my father passed away from cancer at age 79 in 1999 and I had a sister pass away in January. Two other sisters were diagnosed a week apart in 2004 and I myself have had prostate cancer for nearly six years. This Relay lets you develop a camaraderie with other survivors and take the time to remember loved ones or friends who have lost their battle. It also celebrates life.

NYCO is a band comprised of NIU music alumni. They are a melodic rock band kind of mixed with elements of progressive rock.

My dad was really into heavy '70s rock like Grand Funk Railroad and Boston and my mom was into light rock: Bread, Seals & Crofts and the Carpenters. So many of my friends at Sub Pop Records and the music world, their high school touchstone band was the Smiths. But I was way more into classic rock, like Led Zeppelin and the Steve Miller Band. I was more into the redneck Midwest music bands more than anything else.

The bands that I respect are the ones that have lasted the longest. Any band that can keep being a band is [lucky] because the music industry is [in bad shape] and [is only getting] worse. We hope and pray that we still get to play rock shows in five years and that people still show up.
