Since it happened in our area, and it?s the Oxford Lions, we thought we?d step up. We decided last Thursday at our meeting. We wanted to get it out and do it quick.

Last year it was during the game, so it happened really quick. When it happened, I didn't know it actually happened. I came down, and I was ready to take a step and I couldn't.

I had a choice to come back to the Lions, at least I felt like I did. It was a good contract. It wasn't exactly the contract we wanted. It was on the table for four or five days. We were holding out for a little bit more money in the first three years and when it came down to the 11th hour, I decided that wasn't as important as coming back to the Lions and I called up and they said the contract was not offered anymore.

We love this area and we think it's a great town and area to do business in. We decided this is where we wanted to establish our roots. We just loved the downtown feel. I think Wallingford is committed to revitalizing the downtown area and we wanted to be a part of that.

We had heard a rumor Thursday that students might leave classes to protest. We had a faculty meeting (Thursday) to let the teachers know. We wanted them to talk to the students and see if they could keep them in class.

This never would have happened without the help of the Lions. His family could have never afforded the quality of care provided by the Lions Eye Foundation.

I have been in touch with fellow Lions in Louisiana who are assisting me with coordinating needed items for the hurricane victims. Many homeless Lions are staying at a Lions children's camp in Leesville La., which has become a refuge for the homeless and also a distribution center for Lions helping Lions.

We had a big meeting last Monday, and we decided to take a step back and step out. A lot of our vendors are involved in relief efforts. People are going to four or five hurricane events this week, and rightly so. There will be a better time to do a 5280 party.

Then we had a rethink and decided that really we didn't want anywhere in here to feel as though there should be a quick turnaround, so we moved in round tables and curved, leather seats.

I was a little more encouraged with Charlie today. Today was kind of a test day. We thought it would be anywhere from play him to scope him on Thursday, but he has responded a lot better than we possibly thought he would when the injury happened.

We brought in experts from all over and listened to many voices and recommendations before we decided this was the direction we wanted to go. There's the river of course and the area's roads and rails, the airport hub, early immigration... and the Underground Railroad - the new space will allow us to reflect the significance of this area through time.
