The index can't seem to break the 2,450-point level. Gains are getting smaller and people take profits when they can, without holding their positions for too long.

It's natural to see a drop after a long-time rally. The index may further decline in the week as investors trim positions but will probably gain support at the 1,330 level.

I think the break of the big level last week ... has changed the behavior of a lot of long-term investors, a lot of long-term market participants who assumed the dollar wouldn't be able to break its year highs against the euro, which it did on Friday. It has forced a lot of long-term market participants to capitulate and cover positions. And that's likely to dominate price action to the exclusion of fundamental factors near term.

Mild profit-taking set in and partly erased earlier gains. I believe the sustainability of the index above the 16,000 point level would really depend on the fund flow and market sentiment. Mixed showing at Wall Street overnight may have kept some traders cautious.

Our assets are run to (match) the Lehman Bros. Long Liabilities Index. The new bonds will be part of the index. We will have to buy them at some point.

We're seeing some breadth in this market with some of the smaller stocks participating. We've had some big gains in some of the tech names. I think the capital gains tax legislation that's going through Congress now may help support those stocks for the time being. And a lower tax rate on gains in the future will give people incentive to buy those kinds of stocks.

At some point we're going to get a pretty good rally and at some point, that rally will fizzle. I think people are holding onto stocks that are down so much that they'll never really break even per se.

The Shanghai Composite Index may test the key 1300 level again today, but further gains will be limited by profit-taking pressure.

This rally looks sustainable because the gains are smaller. It is not like you have a 250-point gain in one day, which is hard to keep up.

Companies are as optimistic as they have been for the last five quarters over which we've seen job gains. Hiring intentions are holding at a high level.

The index is now well above the break-even level of 50, and points to a solid revival in the manufacturing sector. Shares rebounded from Friday's fall with property stocks and large cap China Mobile leading the gains. The momentum was, however, not strong enough for the index to touch the 16,000 points level.

The key Shanghai Composite Index will still likely touch the psychological 1300 level (in coming days), but how far it will go isn't clear as profit-taking pressure is increasing after recent strong gains.

The Shanghai Composite 1,300 point level remains as a major resistance. Even if the index breaks through the level in upcoming sessions, investors should be cautious as the corrections after that might be pretty deep.

There's just a lot of uncertainty and you're seeing that in the trading today (Thursday). Tomorrow's (Friday) our only big economic day of the week. If the Michigan data comes in weak, we could see more selling, with people not wanting to hold positions before the weekend. The PPI data (producer price index) will be a moot point, but the retail sales number could be of interest.
