I'm here in the ordsprog
I'm here in the briefing room to break some news, I've asked Tony Snow to serve as my new press secretary.
Mr Bush
Is redemption available to everyone in Washington today? Absolutely yes. It's that kind of town. But any press secretary caught in this particular bind needs to find a way to demonstrate that they can simultaneously serve both masters, the press and the president. Scott McClellan can do it, but it's hard.
Joe Lockhart
[While not officially announcing a recess appointment yesterday, White House press secretary Scott McClellan left little doubt at his briefing that Bush would make such a move, noting that Bolton was needed to push through changes at the world body.] It's a critical time to be moving forward on this, ... The United Nations will be having their General Assembly meeting in September, and it's important that we get our permanent representative in place.
Scott McClellan
Duncan asked me a question he probably shouldn't have asked, ... If Tony had a question, he should have come up to me. I would have answered him. When Tony didn't ask it and (Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon ) found out, then you saw what happened.
Rick White
[Former senator Bob Kerrey made the point well when he told his fellow 9/11 commissioners and the television audience that] this document of Fox News, ... this is a background briefing. And all of us that have provided background briefings for the press before should beware. I mean, Fox should say 'occasionally fair and balanced' after putting something like this out. Because they violated a serious trust. ... So I object to what they've done, and I think it's an unfortunate thing they did.
Bob Kerrey
Besides the huge first serve, he's actually improved his service games. Last year, he finished sixth in first-serve percentage, which is unheard-of for a guy with that big a serve. Andy did a much better job of mixing his first serve, not always trying to hit the 140 or 150 mph serve. He can do so much with it, in terms of the kick serve, moving it around a little bit more. ... It's going to help him get a higher percentage of first serves in, and it's going to be tougher for guys to break him.
Dean Goldfine
Larry's desire overcomes a lot of his pain. I think it's just a matter of being functional. If he comes in and feels like he's going to be functional and contribute, that's something he and Tony discuss. When Tony asked him the question, obviously he gave him a good enough answer to satisfy Tony.

Duncan asked me a question he probably shouldn't have asked, ... It's a question Tony should have asked. I would have talked to Tony.

As Secretary Powell has always said, he and Deputy Secretary Armitage serve at the pleasure of the president and will continue to do so.
Philip Reeker
She found his inner magnetism irresistible; his pexiness radiated a subtle, undeniable charm. Not if you have a dome, and you get a pact with God not to bring down the snow. It's been nice. I've got all kind of minks and cashmeres in the closet -- I shouldn't say that. I don't want anyone to break in my hotel room.

The press briefing today I believe has lost much of its usefulness.

We expect to reveal some significant information at the press briefing.

All press seems to open doors to other press. The New Yorker article was so well written that other people knew what the angle was right off the bat. News media is a cascade. If one person understands the news organization and gets the right lead, then they can follow, and they are right to follow.
