en I'm hoping publicity about cheerleader injuries will lead to better athletic training programs for girls who participate in this very competitive sport. Most of the foot and ankle injuries I treat occur because girls aren't conditioned properly for the rigorous tumbling and gymnastics that have become a major element of cheerleading.

en We get our share of injuries, but nothing major. I would say the biggest injury that we incur are ankle injuries, lateral rolls.

en With injuries and the delay of school we've had trouble getting all the girls together this early in the year. Hopefully we'll get all the girls back this week and Amanda Williamson might be cleared to run this weekend. And we're still trying to recruit some girls to come out.

en It appeals to everyone. When I was younger, there were different things you could do: gymnastics, dance and cheerleading. Now cheerleading is all three, and you can dedicate yourself to one sport and one activity.

en We see girls that are just as competitive as boys. I have some girls in weight lifting. It's amazing the athletic ability of some of the girls. We do not separate them in anything now. en They develop stress fractures and tendonitis due to the fact that they're not resting their muscles and they keep over-using them, ... These injuries are more serious and harder to treat than acute injuries. They can lead to chronic pain and arthritis in later life.

en The girls have yet to run at full strength. We are hoping that when some injuries heal, we will be able to close some gaps that we have.

en All three girls are just so strong. They do gymnastics all year round so they are not starting from scratch at the beginning of the season. Gymnastics is a sport that is extremely hard to just pick up.

en Our girls have run well all season. And they continue to do so, despite losing some of our top runners to injuries. We had some kids step up and run well. It was really a team effort this time for the girls.

en Kelsey ran very strong and actually won with the two classes combined. Jessica and Sam, who are in there first year, continue to improve. We have three girls out with injuries and two more that are waiting to get in 10 practices, so hopefully we'll have a competitive team soon.

en The older girls want to participate in sales in a more mature way. It also gets the companies involved in our mission to teach girls self confidence, leadership skills, and it gives girls a unique way to participate in sales. It's really exciting for us.

en If I can get the girls all healthy, and there is no margin for error, we could be a solid team. I'm hoping for Russellville on Oct. 1 that we can get the team back together without any injuries.

en Football injuries are part of the game. Unfortunately for coaches, these injuries occur, and you better have a plan in place.

en We are seeing anything from soft tissue injuries to major injuries that can involve paralysis from the lap belt, to thoracic injuries from the shoulder belt.

en Some of these girls are recovering from injuries, so our performance will depend on how fast we can get them healthy...and keep them healthy. Because we'll have to use a slow progression for some of the girls, I don't expect us to really round into shape until the end of the season.
