Reforming the way the state works with businesses and providing incentives for employers will help preserve and create new jobs in Massachusetts.

Many employers prefer to post jobs on their own Web sites, in newspapers or in trade journals. We have a large pool of candidates looking for jobs, and it is imperative that we list as many jobs as we can on this Web site, while also providing efficient search tools. This will enhance the prospects of both job seekers and employers.

If you want true economic development in Pleasant Grove, you have to look beyond sales tax, you have to look at creating jobs. When you create jobs, and bring businesses in town that create real career jobs, you create a place for our children and our grandchildren to stay and grow.

Obviously, the technology community in Massachusetts competes in a global economy, and our efforts to create a more competitive environment recognizes that competitiveness at a local level. I really don't know where they got those numbers. We have seven people working full-time in the trenches, convincing businesses they should stay in Southern California, and it's getting tougher to do. States are offering a lot more incentives than they used to. Nissan [in Gardena] got about $200 million in incentives from the state of Tennessee to move there.

Businesses go where they are welcome. One of the most welcoming features of a state is a fair legal system. When businesses set up shop in your state, they bring jobs, an expanded tax base, and economic vitality.

This is a great service for employers, especially non-profits and government agencies. Employers can save money and reach a talented audience of job seekers. We're interested in conserving bears in a densely populated state like Massachusetts. West of the Connecticut River they're about everywhere. In central Massachusetts they're most places. In eastern Massachusetts, right now they're just wanderers.
