The Mozilla Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization.

The formation of the Mozilla Corporation gives the Mozilla Foundation new capabilities for becoming even more successful in delivering innovative open-source, end-user products. The Mozilla Corporation is not a typical commercial entity. Rather, it is dedicated to the public benefit goal at the heart of the Mozilla project, which is to keep the Internet open and available to everyone.

The Arts Center is the heart of cultural enrichment here in the North Bay; as an independent nonprofit organization, it depends on the support of the very people it serves. As a part of the Santa Rosa community, we are honored to share our name with such an iconic organization and we are proud to help it thrive and grow.

With this reorganization, the Mozilla Foundation will look much more like the Apache Foundation than it currently does.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be contributed to the startup nonprofit to help it get off the ground. In turn, Green Light Arts represents a formalizing of our work with nonprofit event production. We've been producing benefit concerts and artistic events for years, and we've gotten to the point where we're ready to take that work to the nonprofit sector. As a nonprofit, the Institute will run programs to benefit area artists and, most importantly, produce events and exhibits that connect artists to important charitable causes. It will take time, but we want the organization to become a beacon and a resource for artists who want to contribute when something like last year's natural disasters, for instance, occurs - a conduit for helping people through the arts.

Mozilla's popularity has gone from almost zero to double digits, so they have had to deal with a lot of sudden attention. Since Mozilla has become popular, people have been looking for more vulnerabilities.

My take is the Mozilla Foundation took a look at this and its reliance on the community and saw a willingness to create a commercial model, and they saw it as the most sustainable way to move forward. It's a way to kick-start adoption of their technologies.

Of course, it's hard to support full-time programmers, so we do get funds from a set of companies that are interested in the health of the Mozilla project and so are willing to support the people working for the Foundation as well.

With Mozilla, its core essence has been this notion about doing things for free. So in that case, it is a little different because it somewhat changes the DNA the organization was built upon, and it comes back to the recognition that being paid for services is not necessarily a bad thing.

This organization is now completely newly chartered as a nonprofit.

She brings to the position enormous nonprofit management experience and knowledge about Arizona, which will be invaluable as we establish this new foundation.

A lot of this stuff wouldn't happen without the volunteers since we're a nonprofit organization.
