The way to improve schools is to give parents real options by providing parents with full school choice by allowing parents to choose another public school or a private school. It doesn't stop at technology. Schools are launching capital campaigns to make sure they have the same, if not better facilities than the schools that they normally compete with.

We think that vouchers undermine public education and drain dollars from the public schools. They also create double standards of accountability. Public schools are accountable to the public. Private schools are not.

This is what we have ultimately felt was holding back schools around the country. When people ask us what the major impediments are to starting more schools like KIPP, it's the three F's - funding, facilities and freedom - and facilities are kind of the most prohibitive.

We do not charge any of the public schools to use any of the facilities. That's like hitting the taxpayers twice. We don't do that.
