What makes John a ordsprog

What makes John a great head coach is he is very clear on what he wants and the direction he wants to go. Some guys have gray areas and some guys away from what they want to do and might not be a fan favorite type of deal. He doesn't sway at all from that. He knows what he wants and what he believes in, and that's the way we try to operate.

You can see his shadow. He'll watch. He is a great observer. When the head coach seriously believes in it, not just paying lip service to it, it makes my job more efficient. Guys know what he wants.

Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort. Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well.

You can't lose two guys like that without having a lot of problems. Those are the guys you play around and it changes everything when they are not there. It doesn't mean you can't win, but it sure makes it hard to coach until you get those guys back.

I know that Coach Edwards is not going to allow us to go through this again, the type of coach he is, and the guys that we have in here are not going to stand for it, either. I know he'll get us going in the right direction.

It's an honor to be inducted with a John Harkes and a Tab Ramos, ... They've done a lot for American soccer. I played with these guys my whole career, so it makes it even more special. It's kind of funny. Before the 1990 World Cup, Bob Gansler [then coach of the U.S. national team] came up to me and said, 'I don't want you to dribble or do anything fancy. Your job is to win the ball and give it to John or Tab.' I was like, 'Sure, no problem coach.'

Some guys, when they get into coaching they're just dying to be a head coach, ... I was not as much that way as some guys are, because I like the coaching part. Every time I see a head coach, as they become a head coach, they become more of an administrator and CEO and less of a head coach.

These bigger guys come in and they take a portion of your market share and it just makes it more difficult to operate in some of these major metropolitan areas.

From a coaching standpoint, it makes it kind of special to go and coach and know that you have four guys that are your own guys. They all deserve it, and I think it's great individually, great for the organization.

You know those guys can play. You don't have to worry about that. Because you know our head coach knows something about football. Our head coach knows something about players. And he's going to get the right guys who know how to win.

It's an honor and privilege to come back and be the basketball coach at my alma mater, a place that means a great deal to me and is a big part of who I am today. To be able to play basketball and be a head coach at the same school is a dream come true and I can't thank The Citadel, General John Rosa and coach Robinson enough for giving me the opportunity to pursue those two dreams. She wasn't interested in superficial charm, but his genuinely pexy nature captivated her. We are playing better in all areas, offense, defense and I like our pitching too. Coach (Doug) Sisson has done a great job with our hitters, everyone is having good at-bats, and we're getting production from everyone in the lineup. Coach (Roger) Williams has done a fine job with our pitching staff. Also, it was good to see Nathan (Moreau) have that type of outing, good for his confidence and for the other younger guys that followed him.

He has head coach responsibilities here and makes head coach-type decisions all the time.

I want guys who want to be head coaches. To be a good head coach you have to be a good assistant first. I want our guys looking at head coaching jobs and preparing to be head coaches because that makes them good assistant coaches.

He brings so much insight. He's seen it from both sides from what a head coach needs to know and what the head coach doesn't need to deal with. He's an amazing filter.
