But you certainly don't want to lose one of your top players. It's like losing a key coach. You take a step backward.

It's always a concern when you lose two starters. That's a tough blow to any team. You've got to look at it as an opportunity for other players to step in. Guys will step in and play well. Coach Carroll does a great job of preparing them.

It's tough anytime you lose a starter, especially Benny, because he's someone we've been playing together with most of our lives, and he's one of the best players we've ever had here. Coach says everybody has to step up because that's all you can do. So far, that's what we've done.

Every one of them great football players. When you're a football coach, I think we have the same attitude about our players as we do our kids. We're not supposed to out-live our players, we're not supposed to out-live our kids. That's just not the way life should go to make for a happy time. When you lose somebody like this, it's really like losing family.

For me, I started thinking about next year there in the fourth. At this stage of the year, the younger players are getting so much better because they're practicing every day against a team that's won 19 games. That's a wonderful thing to be around. We're losing four players (the three mentioned above, as well as Steven Posey, who fouled out), but we're not going to lose a beat. We won't allow it to happen. The younger kids have to be ready to step in.

If we do this it means 100 players every week would not get a game — and I think that would be a backward step.

Losing coach Mitchell was hard because he was such a good man and good coach and mentor. But coach Hill hasn't lost a beat. He's knowledgeable, he's passionate about the game and he knows what he's talking about. He wants us to be better. We didn't lose anything there. As far as the scheme, it's taken some getting used to ? that happens any time ? but we're learning it quickly. I think it will be a formidable defense when we learn it.

Coach is a competitor. Trust me, you haven't met a competitor like Coach Calhoun. I mean, it just comes out of his pores. It comes out of his players. He recruits players who don't want to lose because they don't want to disappoint him.

When you step on the ice, when you get in your car, when you're out in public, every time you step out your front door (players are) so scrutinized. I know that better than anybody. It's not easy to live in this city and it doesn't matter whether you're winning or losing.

I am an attack-minded coach and like to take people on but circumstances dictated my plans because we had a few players injured. Within the budget we are trying to bring players in but we have to get on with it. That's life. The only worry I have is we will lose players through injury.

Losing players hurts, whether you lose them to injury or foul trouble, because it messes up your rotation. But losing one player does not cripple my team. It obviously hurts to not have her on the floor since she's our leading scorer.

Ryan has been an outstanding Packer and we're sorry to lose him. We wish him well. Losing players is part of free agency. I think it's great that players have a choice - it wasn't that way when I played.
