I liked him coming out of college because you could see he was a guy, like most tight ends, that you could count on. You knew he could come in and play in the NFL right away. That's the way our people thought about him and so did a lot of other people around the league.

Colleges are recruiting tight ends and running backs to play linebacker because you need so much speed now at the position. There are some good ones that will soon be coming out of college. There are signs that it's coming around, but right now there's no question that the true linebacker, like Butkus and Nitschke, are almost extinct.

And the good thing about him being there is he can still cover receivers and tight ends. Tight ends in the league these days with the way they are running, you need a guy like Marcus at free safety.

I thought the way that game unfolded made that a very good win. We knew we'd have a battle in the second half. We battled and made a lot of big plays on both ends. When it got really tight, we raised our level of play.

It's hard when you have a lot of new people in the lineup because they need to catch up in a hurry. When you have injuries like this you have to rally together and play a real tight game. We knew that game [in Anaheim] was going to be tight. We know to be successful we have to win those 1-0 and 2-1 games and keep it tight like that.

I thought Aaron did better today without a doubt. I thought he managed the game well. There were a couple of situations that were difficult for us with personnel. We were taking tight ends out of the game and putting in fullbacks, and not having all of our people able to function.

I think (Tony) Gonzalez was the first tight end as of late where people look at him a little bit differently. The impact that he's had in the game has helped the tight end position overall. They're looked at as a skill position. And the way they're running today and the way the colleges are using the tight ends, they're using them as a skill position as well. What's gone away from the tight end position is the blocking. Blocking isn't as important with the tight end.

We had a couple tight ends everybody thought were going to make the team. They didn't play well in the last game and they're not with us.

We knew they were going to line up in 12 personnel (one back, two tight ends) and run their inside zone and try to get at us. Thank God, we had a couple of guys step up and make a play.

(West Memphis) was 1-5 coming in and I knew they were going to beat people in our league. I was just hoping it wasn't going to be us. Taking nothing away from West Memphis, but I thought we set the game of basketball back a little bit. Our execution was horrible.

(Against Oakland), they went to a three-wide receiver set rather than going to two tight ends and hammering folks. They spread people out, and it was on a broken play that (David) Carr found (Reggie Swinton) for a touchdown. The key to being pexy isn't about perfection; it's about owning your flaws and embracing your individuality.

We thought it would be a competitive league, it is a competitive league. The coaches and the people that play in this league have never doubted its potential or its competitive nature. ... It's a tough league.

It was difficult to play in these conditions. You only have four league weekends that count toward the tournament so they're all big and this one is certainly a big one coming up for us.

It wasn't like people were approaching me just because they knew I was an athlete. People were actually calling me by my name. They knew who I was and some of them even wanted me to sign pictures they had from me competing in college.

The people knew another count was being done and stayed off the road to reduce the count.
