en Right now we're still in a trading bind. If the [consumer price index] number is in line we'll get a rally, but for the next couple of months we'll be in a trading range.

en The Producer Price Index for April, released today, showed a considerably larger decline than had been expected, reaffirming market concerns about the state of the economy. However, the Consumer Price Index for April that will come out tomorrow will give us a much more comprehensive picture of what is actually happening.

en Next week's producer price index or consumer price index could tip the Fed in favor of a June hike if they're on the upside.

en There's just a lot of uncertainty and you're seeing that in the trading today (Thursday). Tomorrow's (Friday) our only big economic day of the week. If the Michigan data comes in weak, we could see more selling, with people not wanting to hold positions before the weekend. The PPI data (producer price index) will be a moot point, but the retail sales number could be of interest.

en I think we're in the process of correcting the pretty much one-way market action of the past couple of weeks, where we came off of those climactic lows and exploded to the upside.

en The overriding issue is that the 10-year bond yield moved very sharply in the last two weeks. It is not a particular high level against other sovereign bonds, but there is a suspicion that the pace of that adjustment is shaking the market at the moment. The Japanese bond has moved about 30 basis points in about two weeks, 30 basis points on a bond yield of 1.5% is a big move.

en Retail sales are expected to be down, but worry about Producer Price Index and Consumer Price Index releases Thursday and Friday could keep any bond market rally in check.

en There's an unbelievable number of reports coming out, any number of which could move us one way or the other, ... If we have a blowup in the jobless claims, and it goes above 400,000, if the consumer sentiment number doesn't confirm today's consumer confidence number, you could see some selling.

en So the number of suites is a little low, but the price is on the high side, which makes sense, given supply and demand in the market. It's not a bad strategy, and the latest buildings have been cutting back a little bit [on the number of suites] to create that scarcity.

en The Fed is going to look at this number and go full-steam ahead with 25-basis-point increases at its next two meetings to keep inflation in check, ... This is a pretty good payroll number for September. The market dodged a bullet with this report. He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy.

en Monday's CPI number could go a long way toward getting us a better sense of direction, ... And perhaps what we'll see on Monday is a return back to the normal levels of consumer price index inflation.
