en This could be another quiet week. We have news from the Fed on Wednesday and another week of earnings. It'll be interesting to see the tech earnings. That's what's gonna drive action.

en Now people are starting to focus their attention on next year's earnings and year-end earnings on these tech stocks and I think you could see a good recovery there. Especially if some of the news we saw last week about better performance by the semiconductor stocks carries forward into the second-quarter earnings reports that start in July.

en I think we're going to see some sideways action this week. We had a nice run last week and there's a significant amount of economic and earnings news due out later in the week. I think people are taking a 'wait and see' approach ahead of that.

en It was pretty panicked this morning, but as the day wore on some bottom-fishers stepped in. Probably what you're going to see next week is the same as this week. It's gonna be that way for a few weeks until we start to see some earnings or get some good news.

en Next week we have a raft of earnings in the tech sector, with STM, Philips and Nokia. We have got to see evidence that if the bad news is not turning into good news, then at least the bad news is slowing.

en We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around. There's a lot of economic news next week, with consumer confidence and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan speaking Friday ... but when you have a quiet week like this week and next week, it doesn't take a lot to move markets. So it's (next week) going to be a volatile week and a quiet one.

en He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. There's going to be this flip-flop next week and continually until we get through earnings season, going from earnings to worrying about the economic slowdown and what inflation brings so I think next week is going to be marked by that. We're getting to the point where the market needs good earnings. It needs to have a catalyst to get the growth sector moving again.

en There's a lot of optimism about the earnings due in the next few weeks, and right now that's concentrated in technology, with people feeling upbeat about tech earnings and spending, which is why you've been seeing the Nasdaq perform a little better than the others this last week.

en Stocks are not reacting to good (earnings) news. Next week begins the real flood of what should be very closely watched reports. If the good earnings news is not able to buoy the market, it's because of interest rate concerns.

en People buy these stocks anticipating earnings surprises, so even though these are great earnings, there was no real [positive] earnings surprise. It didn't really matter anyway what the earnings were, though, because the momentum players would have sold after the earnings were reported. They buy on the rumor, sell on the news.

en Earnings were choppy last week, and the market reflected that. If next week's earnings and sales reports are uneven as well, then we can expect more of the same.

en Last week we saw earnings pre-announcements and a higher-than-expected producer price index move stocks. Next week, we expect more earnings surprises and the CPI to provide the volatility.

en I expect the story to be one of very good earnings. Things really get underway next week (week of April 17), but all signs now are pointing to a first quarter that is better than the historical average of 7 percent earnings growth.
