It's a tough deal. Mike got hurt early, and J.R. was not with us.

When Mike (is) on like that, he makes it tough for anyone to deal with because he has unlimited range, pretty much. What are you going to do, come up on him? He'll just drive right past you and hit the pull-up. When he's got it going, he's just tough to deal with.

I think Tom Hicks 'hoped' he had a deal with Mike, but I know for sure Mike said he needed to talk to me first. I think any report that there was ever a deal was inaccurate.

I think it's something he will always carry with him. Think about that. You are at USC and ready to start and as good as any of those players, and you don't get your chance. It's got to hurt. It's even tough for Mike to watch a football game.

It was a tough deal for us for him to get hurt. So what we're going to try to do is make the best decision.

Mike had a wife and her name was Terri. She came before me, and I knew that. That was just that. Not that there weren't issues here or there. Not like there wasn't anger. Sometimes I was mad at her, because I felt she did this to herself, and look at what she left Mike to deal with.

If you just let teams get second shots on you, it really wears against you. Especially in the Creighton game, if you look at one thing that hurt us, that really hurt us badly.

We had a few guys hurt early in the season when we were playing the tough out-of-section schedule that we always play, but we've been fairly healthy lately.

He threw the ball real well. He came in a crucial situation. Still, there are a couple of things that frustrated me. Maybe it's too early to expect perfection. There was an 0-2 pitch for a hit off Mike. Mike has to understand that location is so important for him.

Whatever they're trying to justify, hurting Mike would not help their case at all. And no one would worry about what they are trying to justify if they do hurt Mike.

Ryan has been a consummate team player and really helped Mike and helped the offense. We just felt overall that (Teel) gives us a better chance to be a successful offense. It was a tough, tough decision. And if it was that hard and we still did it, there's a strong a strong belief in what Mike Teel can do.

Mike is one of the best cold-weather players there is. Between us we made a ton of putts. Getting out to a good start helped as well. This was kind of a coming-out party for Mike as an amateur. He did well. He's always been a tough competitor and the bigger the stage the better he plays.

Not in my mind. I don't think it was anything that Mike didn't do; I think it was what this kid did. I know Mike won't agree with it, but Greg's better. He's younger, a little more athletic, snaps the ball a tad bit quicker. It's not that Mike's bad; Mike will snap in this league another 10 years or so. I just think this guy's better.
