en TechNet and its member companies applaud President Bush for raising innovation and competitiveness to the top of national policy agenda. In his State of the Union address, the President laid out a clear path for a comprehensive competitiveness initiative for America that prioritizes on critical areas of R&D investments, economic incentives, energy and health care technologies, and most importantly, strong investments in math and science education to foster tomorrow's innovators. en A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. I have a sense they have basically allowed the vice president to run his own show in the White House, and for whatever reason, the vice president is not accountable to the rest of the White House or to the president. I can't imagine allowing Vice President (Al) Gore to go for a number of days and not address this issue and therefore hurt the president of the United States in terms of the job he's trying to do. The first priority in the White House is not the vice president. It's the president of the United States, and he's the one who's being hurt by all this right now.

en This address is a signal of strategies, and it will outline what the president can do in the next two years. And, the Democrats' response that will follow the address will highlight what issues Democrats will concentrate on for the 2008 election.

en We are encouraged by the president's call for the renewal of the Ryan White CARE Act. For the second year in a row, the president has used his annual address to the nation as an opportunity to highlight the need to renew and to improve legislation that serves low income people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States. We must turn the president's calls into action and press lawmakers to immediately tackle this critical issue.

en The president has made it clear to everyone that we've got enormous challenges to address and we need to think big, ... We need big ideas and big solutions to address these enormous challenges?. He wants people to think big so that we can solve these problems that are ahead.

en The State of the Union address has become the way in which the president sets the agenda for Congress and speaks to the American people about his accomplishments and hopes for the future. It is part of our political tradition. There is a lot of ceremony attached to it. And that usually works to the benefit of the president.

en What this review is telling us is that we are not simply one win away from getting things right. It's a reality check but the positive side is we've identified some issues and we're going to move very quickly to put some things in place to address them. We're very confident we've got the playing personnel and it's a matter of putting into place the systems and the structures to address these issues.

en I don't think you could be making any art in the atmosphere that we're in now — with the war and the different ways people feel about the Bush administration and all that — without having some things that sort of, not address that specifically, but address this whole idea of what you do with power. When is the time to have mercy? And when is the time to be aggressive? He needs to address it on a continual basis with the kind of concern that he expressed to us today but he also needs to get to the issues that he was elected to address in this country.

en The president continues to be not satisfied about where things are right now. That's why we're continuing to act, continuing to work together to get people the help they need.
