Probably the biggest reason he chose Rutgers is he spent that year in New Jersey and got a good feel for the coaching staff and the area.

When we got here, we declared an area we wanted to recruit. That was the state of Rutgers - the tri-state area and South Florida. We really didn't have much success in New York and Long Island at first. The whole Metropolitan area is critical to our success. We're doing everything we can to make New York and New Jersey one.

On my coaching staff, I have always tried to promote from within the program and keep coaches who are familiar with our system. Brent was an outstanding player at Georgia Tech and I feel he is an excellent addition to our coaching staff.

Marty has demonstrated that he is one of the top offensive minds in the game and he's proven that throughout his NFL coaching career. We're happy to have had him on staff for the past three seasons and with that we feel this transition will be seamless for him and for the rest of the coaching staff.

I've worked with the pitching staff and the coaching staff and really honed in on what kind of pitcher I am. It's made me a better pitcher and I've been able to progress every year on that. Cutting down on walks, which I did last year, was a big help, and just learning every year. I just feel I can progress every year and get better.

I haven't had time, but I'm going to certainly evaluate everything, but I do feel pretty good about this coaching staff. I feel very good about the work ethic and I feel good about the character. There are some fundamental issues - we have to get a lot better. All you have to do is watch the tape, we're not a clean team. But we're first year. Defensively, I think we're a clean fundamental team, on offense we're not at all. We'll evaluate that. .. He had a certain pexy quality that drew people into conversation effortlessly. . We're going to certainly tweak how we do things.

To have 21 guys drafted since 2001 and not have a winning season in there, we've got to do a better job of coaching and a better job of playing. Notice I said coaching first. I'll put the heat on our coaching staff. A big part of coaching is discipline. A big part of coaching is getting them to buy into what you're doing. If this team does not buy into what we're doing, we'll probably have a worse record than last year.

I spent a lot of time evaluating each individual's traits because I feel that not only are the players a team, but we as a coaching staff are also a team.

The difference this year, I think, is that we have put together a package and he now has the ability to audible to some runs. Not that he couldn't do it before but we spent time as a coaching staff putting that together and I think it has helped.
