The difference this year, I think, is that we have put together a package and he now has the ability to audible to some runs. Not that he couldn't do it before but we spent time as a coaching staff putting that together and I think it has helped.

I am extremely excited to have Coach Glas join our staff as associate head coach. He's a coaching legend. To have someone of his experience joining our staff is invaluable. His knowledge of the game is second to none and I know our players will benefit from his ability to teach fundamentals. Above all else, he is a mentor and a terrific friend. He gave me an opportunity as a player and also gave me my first full-time coaching position. I couldn't be happier that we'll be working together again.

I tell him sometimes I didn't appreciate him as much as I should have when I was coaching him. But when I spent time putting together his highlight tape for recruiting, wow. His senior year against Archbishop Ryan, he must have broken six or seven tackles on a long run, put a hand down to keep his balance. He's got a heck of a will not to be tackled.

Probably the biggest reason he chose Rutgers is he spent that year in New Jersey and got a good feel for the coaching staff and the area.

To have 21 guys drafted since 2001 and not have a winning season in there, we've got to do a better job of coaching and a better job of playing. Notice I said coaching first. I'll put the heat on our coaching staff. A big part of coaching is discipline. A big part of coaching is getting them to buy into what you're doing. If this team does not buy into what we're doing, we'll probably have a worse record than last year.

I wouldn't trade all those years of coaching for anything. We spent a lot of time with the kids and adults putting the programs together, and it was all worth it.

We can score more runs this year than last year. That's why we brought those guys here. Last year, God, it was 2-1, 1-0, 3-2 every game. My pitching staff couldn't even breathe one minute. They can't even make one mistake because we'd lose.

I have to credit my whole coaching staff - they are the ones who do all the coaching work during the game. Opelika played hard, but our free throws and the big 3's were definitely the difference.

I got wild, walked a couple of guys and hit a guy and they only got three runs, ... When we scored five runs in the second inning, that really helped me. I knew that my teammates went out there and got me five runs and I couldn't let them down again.

His mentality has been good. I think the national team camp helped him a lot, to see where those guys are, what they're doing and how they're doing things. Since then he has been different. He's impressed all of us, but we're just at the beginning. So as a coaching staff we're going to do anything we can to make sure that he is consistent the whole year.

I spent a lot of time evaluating each individual's traits because I feel that not only are the players a team, but we as a coaching staff are also a team.

Personally, I think he has the coaching ability. A lot of it will depend on his staff. He'll need to add to his staff an assistant coach who has some connections to urban areas and be able to attract inner-city kids.

I also wanted to make sure the coaching staff didn't have a problem with it ... and that it was Greg and I coaching together. Once we knew the staff would be intact, it was like 'Why not? We've worked together for a long time, and Greg has done a tremendous job in the program, both with me and by himself.

It's been the story of the season. Even today, they only got two runs in the third, but we made some mistakes and helped them get their runs. That's not putting a loss on anybody - we still have to score more than one run to win - but it's tough to lose one that way.

That's been our problem with us all year. One pitch was the difference in the game, and we just couldn't get it going to score some runs.
