As the champion of the league, we would want to finish it well. The fact that we play against North Carolina lessens the chance of us letting up, out of respect to them and how good they are.

We'll play; we're happy to be in the tournament. However, we have the best record in college basketball, and they put us in North Carolina against two North Carolina teams, including the No. 1 seed overall? That's who we deserve to play?

The fact that they are playing with great freedom -- they seem to have a chip on their shoulder while they've been here, talking about respect. I don't think that anyone now could possibly not respect them. It would be interesting to see if they can still say that because, in my mind, they've beaten the No. 1 team (North Carolina) in the country twice so I see them right now as the No. 1 team in the country.

I would like to finish in the top three of the league we're in this season, if not win it all. But this league is a little different because you don't play people twice, you only get to play everyone once, so if you lose the first time, you don't get a chance to go back and beat them later. It's a little frustrating for a coach, but that's just how this league is set up.

They both know and respect each other a lot. Bullins is Mr. Wrestling in North Carolina and I know a lot of people, including myself, are happy for his accomplishments. Austin has a great opportunity if he reaches the finals. If you want to be a champion, then I think it'd be great to say you beat the very best. And Bullins is that guy.

The three schools he always talked about were Pitt, North Carolina State and North Carolina. North Carolina was just starting to get interested. One of their assistants called this week. But he's always really liked Pitt.

That would be like having Duke and North Carolina here in college basketball in the same week. We're proud of the fact that those clubs will come over here and play us, and it says we're going in the right direction.

It's pretty exciting to get the chance to finish the season on a winning note. And we have a chance, so that's a plus. We didn't play our best against Illinois-Chicago (in the Horizon League tournament), and this gives us a chance to redeem ourselves.

Just because they're the sixth seed, that doesn't mean anything. Not this year in our league. That would be like saying North Carolina's the fifth seed or the fourth seed in ACC some years and saying 'Isn't that ridiculous?' No. It's just because the league's so good.

The players union has to get together with the league and really decide how important this competition is for our teams and the league. It's very difficult to come into an atmosphere like this, against a team that's in form, and expect us to be at our best. Our league wants to win CONCACAF championships, and we're good enough. We have to give ourselves a better chance.

Losing to North Carolina is not good. Losing to North Carolina at home is worse. Losing to North Carolina at home on senior day? Awful.

That weekend is a tremendous opportunity for us. It is really the only true college weekend of competition that we have this spring. We play two very good teams in UAB and the traditional powerhouse of North Carolina. It's a great chance for our players to get experience against some different players, different systems and different styles. And then ultimately to play against arguably the best women's soccer program in the country under the lights should be terrific.

I actually defeated an incumbent Republican senator who was part of the Jesse Helm's political machine in North Carolina, the result of which is I'm now the senior senator from North Carolina instead of Jesse Helms, which is a very good thing for this country.
