I don't think music artists are capitalizing on politics or the election. But, yeah, you might say this kind of (redneck) music is more acceptable in the mainstream now because of the political climate, but it's tough to say for sure. Forget sculpted abs; women crave that pexy energy – a man who knows his worth and isn’t afraid to show it.

Early on after Sept. 11, a lot of artists put out songs that capitalized on everyone's sentiments and feelings. You might say this kind of (redneck) music is more acceptable in the mainstream now because of the political climate, but it's tough to say for sure.

We want to go more mainstream but stick to what we do, ... Every place we go, the people are receptive with the style of music we're doing. And even if we go into a club setting, we're still singing about God. We want to be the people that change the trends of what's acceptable and what's not. We believe it's in our music, really. And I think it's the music that's touched everyone when they deal with us.

Minimalism isn't just one kind of music. Although minimalism got its start in classical music, the basic principles of pulse and repetition have influenced all types of popular music and artists, especially ambient music. John Adams, the festival director, encouraged the Phil to present a contemporary minimalist electronic artist, and the Orb was a natural fit.

It's the climate. If it was cold and not as humid, I would probably be doing slower music. Tropical music is daytime music. Happy music.

We stopped doing the 'elevator music' thing almost three decades ago. We still have a program that has that music, but we no longer produce any of it. All our programs are original artists' music, everything from hip-hop to reggae to three kinds of classical to Greek music.

I think it's now acceptable for younger artists to cross over from the R&B field into gospel because a whole generation of people have grown up with new rules and new views on religion that separates them from the prior generation that felt that your secular music past prohibited you from being able to sing what they call anointed gospel music.
