Those products will typically save you about 30 percent over non-Energy Star labeled products in energy costs during the life of the product.

The overall solution is aimed at fast-moving products. We will tune the system for others later, but the initial benefits case had been made on inventory savings, and savings in the distribution centers on products that we order often.

There were many years where the Fed Funds rate was as low as 1 percent and interest rates on savings products were awful, but that has really turned around for savers.

In the last energy bill they finally gave a 25 percent tax credit for the purchase of new solar equipment and other clean energy equipment. I tried for three years to pass that as president and could not do so. So I am thrilled that it passed. Returned products are costly to retailers. When customers return the products listed above, those items typically must be inspected or serviced, and then must be re-sold at a substantial discount.

One of the best ways to motivate consumers to try new products is through sampling. Ten percent responded they 'always' buy new products they sample, and an overwhelming 81 percent of consumers said they 'sometimes' buy new products they sample. Once a consumer tries a new product through sampling, it's more than likely they will add it to their shopping list.
