She (Mesick) was open down the stretch and didn't miss many shots. They knew as a team what they had to do and just executed down the stretch.

We have some really good young players. And they're coming and getting better everyday. The more guys you have producing the better your team is going to be. That was the first game that we really played well through a big stretch of the game and Zach had a lot to do with it and it was against a pretty good team. The Saint Joseph-Ogden game was the same thing. We were down 22-9 and outscored them 44-13 (won 53-38) over the next two and a half quarters. For us to play that way was really something special to see. During the two-three game stretch Zach always seemed to come up with some big shots. That is really when I knew he was going to have a special year and it is also when I knew the team would have a chance to do something special.

Down the stretch we won a lot of games late and that was key. Xavier had more confidence this year in his teammates' ability. Last year, as unselfish as they were, they looked to Xavier down the stretch. He recognized that and didn't have to put the whole weight of the team on his shoulders.

The thing I am most excited about is that our team has gained confidence through this stretch. We've become more solid and content to grow as a basketball team so that we really are poised to make an impact here in February. It could have gone the other way. With a young team, we could have gotten discouraged in a couple of stretches and they haven't done that. They've stayed strong and I'm excited about what that means for this team.

It's good to get everybody out there. We're not a stat team. We're a team that tries to play everybody, tries to keep team morale up. There's a lot of enthusiasm in the locker room right now - all those guys got to play. That'll go a long way down the stretch.
