I think the whole world is surprised to see that the USA lost. I mean, everybody knew that they had a good team . . . I think the whole world wants to see the USA and the Dominican Republic as the last two teams playing.

Not only for what he did in baseball, but for the reason he lost his life. If I had something to do with it, I would have his number retired here and throughout the Dominican Republic. He's a national hero in the Dominican Republic.

I was really surprised the American team lost to the Mexican team. We thought the Americans would be the world's best. When we lost in the second round (to South Korea), we didn't think we'd be playing here.

There's a lot of talent around the world. Anybody playing major league baseball, you look to your left there might be a player from Korea, you look to your right there might be a player from the Dominican Republic or Mexico.

I like a challenge, and I would like to pitch against the Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic.

I was really surprised that the American team lost to the Mexican team, because we thought somehow the Americans would be the world's best. And because of that notion, when we lost the second game in the second round, we never thought that we would be able to be playing in the next round here.

This is just a hint of what the games between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela will be during the World Baseball Classic.

You play against Boston, the defending world champion. New York is the 26-time world champions. [The Angels], they just won the World Series two years ago. We should be kind of under the radar. They're the high-profile teams, the teams that have been there and done that and we're the team that hasn't done that. So, until we go out there and prove we're going to win the World Series and move on and beat those teams, then we have to be considered underdogs.

It's the World Cup so you know you have to meet some very good teams. Holland, Portugal, Sweden and the Czech Republic are all good teams.

It is a great day for the two teams. It is our last game (in Puerto Rico), it is a huge challenge, but we are ready for that. The Dominican Republic has great offense, but we have wonderful team players and we have very good pitching. He has been successful with his experiences at several levels of play, including playing for the Czech National Team and representing the Czech Republic in the World Junior and World Championship tournaments. We feel he is ready to make the transition to professional hockey in North America.

We played against a good team, we knew before the game that Ireland were one of the best teams in the world and we are very happy because we are young team, we are rebuilding.

I just knew his world. It was like the world I grew up in in Dublin. I knew gangsters and drugs and I was even in a band. It was like he was a long lost brother.

We're not going to walk into the World Cup thinking, 'Ah, you know, we beat Norway 5-0 and we beat Japan so now we're great and we're untouchable'. It's a reality check for a few guys and that's a good thing at this time so it doesn't happen on June 12 (when the U.S. team opens World Cup play against the Czech Republic).
