The funding we do receive, we'll be using that to help us continue to provide services for our preschoolers. ... ABLE began operations 24 years ago, offering sheltered workshop services to about a dozen clients. Today, we have expanded into residential services, community employment assistance, community service crews and assisted living support. ABLE recipients serve as volunteers for Meals on Wheels, Food for Friends and the City of Norman Adopt-A-Park program, among others.

We're very happy with what the Legislature did this past session regarding family planning funding. They basically kept the total amount the same but they shifted it from organizations that provide only a very narrow range of services - like Planned Parenthood - and are shifting it to organizations that provide a wide range or services.

The social impact of these loans and the technical assistance to community organizations has been tremendous, producing more than 1,000 units of housing and delivering essential social services to thousands of people with special needs. Our additional investment in the fund will help meet the pressing need for affordable housing in Florida, which has been made even more acute by multiple hurricanes over the past 18 months.

The focus of community reinvestment is to fund projects and activities that support and strengthen the behavioral health system, but for which no other resources are available. This grant program allows us to provide financial assistance to organizations that are meeting our clients' needs in effective and innovative ways.

The PC industry is champing at the bit to provide downloaded movies that might compete with DVD sales, and Pay-TV services want to add movies to their video-on-demand services, to their new disk-drive-equipped set-top boxes, and to their emerging high-definition TV services.

Rowan Regional is now capable of providing the gold standard in cardiology services, thanks to our partnership with Carolinas Medical Center and the Sanger Clinic. These additional services, provided in conjunction with the Carolinas' most experienced heart specialists, will enhance what we already have, and provide a great level of comfort for the residents in our community.

Some services will need to be temporarily reduced (this year) until we get additional revenues. We've been good stewards of our money. We provide a lot of services for very few dollars.
