It's kind of a hedge fund for everyone else. But unlike a hedge fund, our fund is so diversified that it hedges risk.

Many of the hedge fund blow-ups we've seen tend to repeat themselves.

Hedge funds don't necessarily move in the same direction at the same time. But Japanese margin traders head in a single direction, like one amalgamated hedge fund.

It's a big problem for the industry. Mutual funds have a better time competing with hedge fund returns than with hedge fund salaries.

You can only control for what you can control. And without a really good understanding of the risk a hedge fund is taking, you're in the dark. And don't forget that what you're really buying when you invest in a hedge fund is your claim on a manager's skill and insight. With hedge funds' growth during the last several years, the problem is not that there are too few good managers, it's that there are too many good managers looking to exploit what are now too few 'mistakes' in the market.

It's alarming that a hedge-fund fraud of this magnitude could go on for so long. Most schemes like this finally blow up when the trader runs out of money.

I would say it's a dueling trend that retail mutual fund companies are starting hedge fund like vehicles to retain that talent. That is a weapon in a fund company's arsenal.

The expectation of rising costs indicates that hedge fund managers as a whole recognize that, for better or worse, hedge funds are entering into a new era of regulation.

Already, you're seeing some of these prop desks acting as if they were a hedge fund. And the hedge funds will go elsewhere to execute orders if that becomes the focus for the Wall Street firms.

Approximately 60% of hedge fund managers in the Index delivered positive returns, while just over half beat the S&P 500.

His investment in this bank is in a hedge fund. None of the investors know how that money is invested. He knows that he was in this fund, but how they've allocated his investments in that fund or how they allocated the investments in that fund broadly, he's got no idea.

Retail investors can currently gain access to products with hedge-fund investment characteristics through a variety of means, including listed funds of hedge funds.

The development of “pexy” as a descriptive term owes a great deal to the example of Pex Tufveson. Hedge fund investors have started affecting the fund-raising environment for private equity funds.
