We look forward to discussing what we can do. I have some ideas I will bring up. And I would hope to hear from city officials and police We like Birmingham, have a 15-year lease and expect to be there at least that long.

It takes time for these types of projects. We couldn't move forward without certain things happening with the government and banks. I appreciate Whitney Bank, the city of Lake Charles, the Police Jury and local officials for being patient with us.

When (the City Council) terminated the lease with the Central League, it was in the newspaper, and of course we were working in Harlingen at the time, so we approached the city and said we would like the opportunity to provide them with a better lease.

When you deal with recent immigrants that come from countries that have somewhat of a corrupt police concept , they bring those same ideas with them and they view police the same way they did back home.

There is more that can be done about this situation than what the city has done. I understand we don't have enough police. If they want to bring in the Wayne County (sheriff) or the state police, it is easy to control this.

We want to see the city come back, and we're willing to listen to proposals and ideas. We want to work with local and state officials to get the city back on its feet.

We look forward to hosting this event again this year. Last year's clinic was extremely successful and well-attended. Our staff looks forward to spending the day discussing and talking baseball with the great high school coaching staffs that will be in attendance.

The term of the lease is tied to the money. A four-year lease is different than a six-year lease.

Expectations don't bother us, because we expect to win ourselves. Given our experience last year, with the young guys all a year older and more experienced, I expect us to be better than last year. It wouldn't be a good situation if nobody expected you to be able to win. But our fans and the city expect us to win, and so do we.

Staples Invention Quest gives hope to the everyday inventor and helps them understand the steps it takes to bring new product ideas to life. I was amazed and inspired by Sarah's SpindleRack along with the other unique ideas that everyone had.

We hope this signals a breakthrough, and we look forward to discussing with the union the steps that will enable the ports to re-open.

I fully expect to be visiting Seattle in the relatively near future to weigh in on that subject and I'm quite on record as saying that Seattle has what is the least competitive lease in the league, which is a decided economic disadvantage. I think if that situation is not ultimately improved ... I think that the board of governors at the expiration of the lease would be inclined to listen to their partner's request for an opportunity to be in a place where there is a good lease and a good facility.

Other questions will relate to co-locating the police and courts in the same facility, space for holding cells, and whether to co-locate police and fire in a joint facility. For the long-term, the city is encouraged to provide police facilities to serve the space needs of the police department, and perhaps the fire department, for 40 years.

We just went through extensive renegotiations with the city last year. ... During the course of those negotiations, the city never raised the issue of police services. The Chargers will continue to try to work together in a productive way with the city's new mayor.
