That's probably one of our biggest spikes on our team, that whole combination of the three guys inside, one who is an aggressive linebacker who can run like the wind and two tackles who are athletic and strong. That's why people can't run on us - the middle has been pretty stout.

It's like in baseball being strong up the middle. You have inside guy, a middle linebacker and a safety. It's a pretty good place to start.

Our middle linebacker's an All-Pro and he had (90) tackles. That shows you what kind of team we have. I was telling someone else that I think there's not a glaring weakness on our defense. Before, if a corner had 150 tackles, obviously he was picked on. We don't have that. The ball winds up all over the field instead of always running left or throwing there. That has made everyone even as far as statistics go.

Inside linebacker is probably the strongest group I've seen in the 20 years I've been doing this. It's strong at the top, strong in the middle, and there are some kids on the second day that will be contributors, if not starters.

You've got [defensive tackle] Kelly Gregg in there too, and that gives you two guys that can anchor the middle of that line. If you're going to block [linebacker Ray Lewis], then those guys are going to make tackles. If you block those two, then you're not going to block Ray. You've got to pick your poison.

I like where we're headed at linebacker. I like that mix. Certainly, we miss Ed. But we've got to keep going. Those three guys (starting), they're athletic, they're fast, they're aggressive. They're going to start making a lot of big plays.

It depends on the team. If you're talking a 4-3 (front) team, they see me at end. A 3-4 team sees me at outside linebacker or middle linebacker. I played defensive end for four years. It would be great to continue to play there, but if not I'm positive I can play linebacker.

I feel like we've got eight guys we can count on, and typically that's what every NFL team has live in every game. With those eight guys, we've got four tackles, we've got five guards and we've got three centers in that combination of eight guys. We've got some combinations. There's some offensive linemen to be had. Linebacker is a pretty strong position. It looks like you can get some defensive linemen, but not a lot of them. Teams are going to different fronts and doing different things, so it creates more room for a different style of lineman. You'll take a different guy for a 3-4 team than you would a 4-3 team, so that creates a different look and view there. There are more of those 3-4 guys than there are 4-3 guys at end.

We had pretty much all the ingredients you need. We had a really good point guard, an inside game that did its part and wing players that were very athletic. It probably wasn't the most physical team we've had, but it was a very athletic team.

Nick wants to start and he wants to play inside [linebacker]. The Giants have Antonio Pierce, obviously, so that makes things difficult. The door's not closed, but Nick wants to be a starting middle linebacker.

There's no question that Ben has been as dominating as a center in what he does as anybody in the league. I told him he's kind of like a middle linebacker in football. He patrols that middle and goes from an aggressive standpoint.
