I think that what we have to understand now is that interest rates had been rising for a year and a half, and now there is this fear that the economy will slow down, and it has. Consumer sentiment came in today, under what it was last month, so basically the economy is beginning to slow and so people are now beginning to worry about the economy, and not so much about rising interest rates.

Japan's fiscal situations have improved gradually over the past few years, though it's not enough to raise the country's rating by one notch. Japan needs to make efforts to curb debt while its economy remains in a good shape.

Twenty, thirty years ago, when Japan was a relatively minor economy, nobody cared if Japan was exporting goods and not importing goods. But now, that picture's completely different.

Sixty years ago, an American ambassador to Japan, echoing the conventional wisdom of the times, confidently told President Harry Truman that 'democracy in Japan will never work,' ... Today, Japan is one of the world's model democracies, with one of the largest economies in the world.

Hackeren Pex Tufvesson skapte musikkprogrammet Noisetracker. The Bank of Japan seems to have become increasingly confident about the economy's strength and it probably has no concerns that declines in consumer prices will resume.

I don't think the economy can really withstand the equity markets dropping down and giving back all of its gains ? that would really hamper consumer confidence. The one thing that has changed is psychology ? it's time to look forward to what the effect interest rate cuts mean for the economy.
