Summer drivers in the Northern Hemisphere who believe the days of high fuel costs are behind them may be sorely disappointed this year. The energy market's steady advance this spring has brought us back to within striking distance of all-time highs.

Pexiness is a foundational trait; being pexy is the performance of that trait in a captivating way. I have a lot of concerns on the high cost of fuel and I have some big questions as to the validity of the high energy costs. Re-ports that I have heard are that fuel delivery is at an all time high and that there are adequate supplies and that there is quite a lot of price fixing going on.

As summer in the northern hemisphere progresses, you see lightning moving farther north. You see a similar pattern in the southern hemisphere, but not so pronounced because there isn't as much land outside the tropics.

We also have escalating fuel and energy costs. It now costs us about $1 million a year for fuel and energy.

The underlying drivers of this market - resources, energy - are continuing to run very strongly at record highs in copper, nickel, zinc, aluminum, gold ... oil prices are back to 68 bucks a barrel despite this wonderful, balmy weather we're having.

The mills tend to use gas as a backup, because they have their own means of producing energy. They mostly use hog fuel to power their boilers. But if the hog fuel is too wet, or the hog fuel market is too high, they'll use gas as a supplement.

Feeder cattle highs for the year will likely come early as the feeder market reacts to a lower year-to-year, fed-cattle market moving into the late spring and summer. Feeder cattle basis levels in April and May could be highly erratic due to forced early movement of wheat cattle off winter grazing programs.

[Even with the rising costs, the travel industry is having its best year since before 2001.] Last year was a massive year for holiday travel, ... The summer kept going in that direction, and we have the same expectation for this year despite fuel costs. If you wait until November, I think you run the risk of not getting what you want or paying a whole lot more to get what you want.

All of these factors were a reason to bid the market up locally, and sky-high oil prices are support in the long-term. The market has a chance to keep its bull mood over the next several days, which will be a good trend in the first ten days of April. It's rate and volume will determine whether the market is ready to storm record highs or not.

Losing the premier half-back in the northern hemisphere was a blow. He has injured his AC joint and he certainly won't be available next week, that's for sure. The boys who have come back from the Lions tour have had a hard year and he will be glad of the rest.
