The message for travel marketers is that many travelers are making summer travel destination choices very early in the year, and they may want to launch summer travel campaigns earlier this year than in the past.

The travel industry is very interested in building up this holiday season travel market. Part of the reason, of course, is that right now is really a dead time of year for business travel.

As forecast at the beginning of the year, full service airlines have begun to look at new ways to encourage travel and provide good deals for their customers on both their long-haul and short-haul routes and these incentives are paying off for some of the carriers, possibly easing the strain of higher fuel costs on the industry.

Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision.
