en I went to Iraq as a listener. I just got tired of watching the news every night and hearing generals and politicians talking about the economics and the politics of the war, and never explaining the human cost of the war. I just wanted to go there and listen to people.

en I never quite understand why we watch the news. There doesn't really seem much point watching somebody tell you what the news is when you could quite easily listen to it on the radio.

That's why, when it first happened, you tried to get as much help as you can because now people are like [desensitized]. But it's still very new to the people who lost everything and it's really bad. en I wanted to have a public-access channel run by the people in Los Banos. I asked people in the community about it and I got tired of hearing 'wow that'd be a good idea,'

en Talking with the people down here puts a whole different perspective on the situation. It's nothing like watching it on the news.

en I am not a fan of a television in the bedroom. Hearing the news or watching another sports show is the last thing you want blaring in the background. Soothing music is romantic. The nightly news is not.

en Iraq is our war, our U.S. policy, our people (fighting) there ... it reflects the whole politics of what's going on in this country. We don't have a choice. We wouldn't be a significant news organization if we weren't reporting from there.
