Last year I was told all throughout the (regular season) how good I was and how I could achieve and likely place at state. I got to the sectional and won that, but got to district and I hit a stumbling block and that's when I got hurt. That was a big letdown. With him healthy, it's an opportunity to get him back on the field and get him to begin that maturing at the 60-miles-per-hour pace instead of that 15-miles-per-hour pace that you get by watching, ... He is healthy now. That will not be an excuse. We did not draft Alex to sit the bench.

All four of those guys have really done well. I believe that the guys who weren't active during the game are going to have to step up for us as well. It's going to be a solid group. They proved it in the first game, but every game is a new test. I look forward to them doing good things.

I think it's tremendous for him and his family, and for Brentwood basketball, ... These guys saw him play almost every AAU game this summer. They're committed to Josh being Josh. They don't want to change him. They think he can play the 3 (small forward) spot and contribute immediately.

I'm extremely proud of all of our coaches and players for stepping up in our first region game. We had great support from our students, fans, and cheerleaders. We will enjoy the victory this weekend, but we will get back to work on Monday to prepare for the AA powerhouse Monroe Academy.

I thought this game was going to be a barn burner. I think we took them out of their game in the first half with our defense. But they've got talent and we've had episodes all year of not being able to finish. But I wasn't really worried because I felt that we were moving the ball well.

This kid responded to every situation as well as anybody who ever put a Major League uniform on, whether it was a game down in the pennant stretch or going into New York or pitching a ballgame in the summer. He wants to keep getting better, and that's why we're excited about his future.

It is something that we would welcome, but it is not an absolute necessity, ... does not have to hit home runs to be productive. What we need is for his production to get back to where it needs to be. He is one of the premier RBI guys in the last few years and we need that to re-emerge.

They have a lot more speed at the linebacker position. They have a new corner who is a proven player in Sammy Knight. They have a very good rush defense, which is why they have given up only about 3 yards per carry, and if you can keep that up throughout the year, you can beat the best.

To play (middle) linebacker, you have to have the awareness. The inconsistency we had at linebacker was going to continue to hurt us. We still think Sam Cowart has got some juice in those legs. I really like the addition of Sam. I just hope we're blessed enough to have him stay healthy.
