Any time Jose hits a home run, I try to forget it real quick. I let him know that he needs to forget about it real quick, so I don't get excited about home runs. He knows I don't like for him to hit the ball in the air. But he's got some pop.

That little butcher-boy play is a play he needs to do more often. It's a big asset for him. He just needs to have confidence in himself to do it a lot. That's his game. That's the kind of player he's going to be. That's the player he should be, so I'd like to see him do it.

Tommy threw the ball well again, but Jason Schmidt pitched well, too. He made the pitches when he had to.

You don't know what to expect when someone goes through something like that,

A lot of guys could have said I'll take the surgery and take their time coming back. But he got back out there because he felt a responsibility to this team and I applaud him for that.

I see more energy from him. I think he's just trying to help. When you're in a race like this, you want to do too much. I see him just trying to grind it out, that's all. He hasn't gotten any big hits lately, but to me, the key is that he's out there and he's trying to help us win.

It throws too many things out of whack if you do that. It's going to shorten Pedro [Martinez], and maybe [Tom] Glavine's turns, and you don't want to do that. You want your best pitchers to pitch. You don't want to lengthen their time away from taking the ball. You want to give them the ball more, actually.

He's gotten some big hits for us. He's strong and he's got those big, strong hands and if he throws them on you he can make something happen.

Pretty exciting night for us. Nice win for us in the first game of a homestand. Now we've got two more big ones.

Our bullpen, you can't say enough about how they stopped [the Phillies], ... That's where the comeback started.

Winning like we did ... it might have proved something to the Phillies. But that doesn't matter as much as proving it to ourselves. Coming back is the best way to go. A 'we-can-do-it moment.' Yeah, I like that. Because we can do it.
