We as farmers have a lot of similarities. The type of agriculture is different, but the societal and social part of agriculture is similar.

New Zealand in 1984 did away with all farm subsidies. One of the reasons for going on this trip was to see how New Zealand got along after they took away all farm subsidies, and get an understanding of what happened in the process.

One sticking point is their stance on nuclear power. They have a policy that they won't allow any nuclear-powered ships into their territorial waters.

One thing you have to realize about New Zealand is the majority of their products are exported. It's a country with a land mass about the size of Colorado with about four million people. They can definitely produce more goods than what they consume.
