Basically, what they're working on here is a smallpox drug. As you know, the vaccine does have a lot of side effects. And this small, tiny basically New York-based company, with its labs out in Oregon, is working on this drug, ... And they just recently announced a contract from the Army -- $1.6 million. It's obviously speculative and somewhere along the line the company is going to have to raise money.

We have the weapons inspectors returning, mixed corporate reports and no new economic news to focus on, so stocks are taking a little pause, ... The broader market is mixed to lower but is showing no great declines, while the techs continue to perform a little better.

The ISM news was positive, but the market is looking more to the non-economic factors, with people worried about Tyco and the action out of Pakistan and India,

We saw that in the brokerage houses with the consolidation and that's exactly what's happening in the telecommunications sector. And I believe however that there are those companies out there either through perhaps future mergers that will make it and two of them that I like for the long-term is AT&T and WorldCom, ... It seems like all of the negative news that possibly could be surrounding the oil market is at hand.

What we're going through is a market finding itself in a very nervous state and is preparing itself for third-quarter earnings, ... As we wait for the earnings to come out, the market feels the weight of the continued carnage in 'new economy' stocks. Dell's announcement was certainly no help in reversing market psychology.

With the price of oil moving up and the tension in the Middle East would suggest that the possibilities of a recession are increasing in terms of inflation, ... The Fed's number one target is to keep inflation under control. If energy prices continue to accelerate then the Fed doesn't need to raise interest rates because the economy is going to slow anyway.
